On 17 July 2026, Maria E. Pierce attended the in-person meeting as Co-Chair of the OMF Standards Working Group and Certification Working Group of the Members Council of the Open Modeling Foundation (OMF) in Dublin. The OMF Members Council meets twice a year; in this case, the meeting was linked to the International Congress on Environmental Modelling and Software (iEMSs 2026).
The meeting focused on preparations for the release of the first official OMF standard. The discussion brought together perspectives from software development, philosophy of science, scientific modelling, and application areas in which models are directly used in legal or regulatory contexts. This breadth enabled a productive discussion of the requirements such a standard needs to meet in order to be practically useful across different modelling contexts. The work on the first official OMF standard was thereby advanced substantially.
