From 12 to 16 July 2026, the 13th International Congress on Environmental Modelling and Software (iEMSs 2026) took place at University College Dublin, Ireland.
Maria E. Pierce co-chaired the session “Much needed Good Modelling Practices and standards: are we getting there, and if so, how?” together with Volker Grimm. The session was the largest of the conference, reflecting a growing interest in Good Modelling Practices and standards across the wider environmental modelling and software community. Contributions addressed modelling standards and good modelling practices across different domains and stages of the modelling and simulation lifecycle.
In the closing talk of the session, Maria E. Pierce presented a framework for good epistemic practices as a diagnostic device for identifying where issues in modelling studies originate and how they may be addressed more precisely. The subsequent discussion of the standards session was very well attended and continued in smaller groups long after the official close.
